ABSTRACT
Researchers in the area of child abuse and neglect have attempted to explain (not excuse) why anyone would harm a child. In Chapters 2 through 5 of this text, information is provided on the four categories of abuse, the typologies of abusers, and victim outcomes. However, child abuse remains a complex series of conditions, interacting dynamics, and events that may not ever be fully explained.
