ABSTRACT
Since the late 1800s, US society has been attempting to address the problems of child abuse and neglect by establishing appropriate legislative responses for those children who have been victims of abuse. Currently, there exist over 27,000 federal and state statutes that directly or indirectly affect victims of crime (Tobolowsky et al. 2010). Many of these legislative efforts focus upon the protection of children.
