ABSTRACT

Hong Kong’s education system has British and Chinese influences. Since its return to China in 1997, it has been able to maintain some features of the British education system under the Chinese government policy of “One country, two systems”. This has helped Hong Kong to develop well-structured Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education (CWIE) based on a rich history of vocational education. This chapter explains the development of Hong Kong’s CWIE, presents as a case study Work-Integrated Education (WIE) programme of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a leading institution in CWIE, and concludes with recommendations for the development of CWIE in Hong Kong.
