ABSTRACT

This chapter references an international cross-sectional study conducted by Dr. Daniel Stroud and Leif Hallberg exploring the practice patterns of professionals providing equine-assisted therapy. The results of this study help the industry take shape, shedding light on practitioner demographics, competency levels, financial considerations, and the professional applications of equine-assisted therapy. In this chapter, readers will identify different business models and the important components to running a business, demonstrating the ability to think critically about the financial and logistical challenges that can arise when providing equine-assisted therapy. Readers will also describe the challenges with third-party payment, and demonstrate their ability to use key language when communicating with third-party payers. Finally, readers will apply components of a business plan to a practical scenario and analyze personal levels of business acumen.
