ABSTRACT

Learning about and acknowledging white privilege poses multiple challenges for those of us who identify as white. For years, sociologists have written about the diffi culties of teaching about race relations in the college classroom, 1 and teaching about racism from the white privilege perspective only compounds these diffi culties. 2 Teaching about these concepts is diffi cult because learning about them is so challenging. A number of diff erent factors contribute to this problem, and understanding how they intertwine and interconnect will help us understand and accept this important sociological fact.
