ABSTRACT

On January 19th the inauguration of the'' Bissell" Habitation was held in Bristol ; there was a large ·attendance of ladies and gentlemen. In the comse of his speech Mr. Broad Bissell said "those t•f them who ·had read his speeches would know that he had advo-.cated the· extension of the vote to ladies-those who were not now represented by husbands, such as spinsters and widows. It appE>ared to him that the Primrose League was especially adapted to them. Widows and spjnsters could not go through the roughness, confusion and bustle of an election turmoil in our large towns, but they could go to the Habitations of the Primrose League, and by their voice-which was perhaps not very desirable-he did not see why people laughedbut they could certainly by their votes and voices in the Primrose League influence the future elections in England. He believed the extension of the Primrose League would vastly strengthen their cause." Mrs. Bissell is an active councillor of a Ladie&' Habitation.
