ABSTRACT

This chapter covers ways to prioritize what to do when hiring various types of employees, including background checks and obtaining references. It examines how to integrate security concerns in the process of hiring new employees. The chapter discusses the importance of background checks as well as legal issues about the use of sources of material in background checks. It also examines potential issues with mentoring programs for new hires to assimilate them into the security culture of a company, and reviews the use of occupational questionnaires to screen applicants, and explains how to conduct background checks for new hires and various ways to do background checks. It also explains how to check the references of potential hires with some emphasis on security issues. The chapter explores how to assimilate new hires into the security culture of an organization by using mentors and how to check on compliance of new hires with security procedures by using monitors.
