ABSTRACT

Sociology utilizes the concepts of social roles, institutions, and structure as well as socialization and cultural symbols. Imagine a son is born to an impoverished family in an inner-city neighborhood. Sociology also offers a way to study how the structural organization of the society addresses the needs of the population for food, clothing, shelter, and security. Sociology can be thought of in terms of a telephoto lens which sometimes profiles the individual but also permits a wide-angle view focusing on other elements in the frame as seen in family, neighbourhood, and general environment. Social structures were relatively uncomplicated, for most of human history. The vast majority of human history was characterized by hunting and gathering societies, in which work was devoted to procuring food and shelter. The term social institution refers to the patterned ways in which a society addresses basic human needs. Globalization is frequently associated with an improved standard of living in developing countries.
