ABSTRACT

An effective operational support can be ensured only through the unity of command at the operational level of command. This means that elements of operational support must be directly subordinate to a respective operational commander. All elements of operational support are integral parts of the maritime theater command organization. The operational commander and respective staff sections are responsible for organization, maintenance, and use of operational support. Operational intelligence is aimed at supporting a major naval operation or maritime campaign. Operational IO is planned and conducted in support of a major naval operation or maritime campaign. Operational fires are often one of the main prerequisites for the success of the initial phase of a maritime campaign or major naval operation. The Navy's ability to project its power far away from its home bases and for conducting sustained operations both in peacetime and in time of war is directly related its capability in logistical support and sustainment.
