ABSTRACT

A MEMORANDUM was submitted to the Trades' Union Congress, but not discussed, to the effect that there are employed at collieries in the Wigan and St. Helen's districts, thousands of women and girls who are dressed wholly or partially in male attire, and whose duties are those of banksmen and screeners of coals. It was added that the only reform possible is the absolute discontinuance of the practice. We fear that if the question had been discussed, the usual horror would have been expressed at women doing such "unfeminine" and " repulsive " work.
