ABSTRACT
Mr. LoWTHIAN BELL, President of the British Iron trade association read the first paper. He spoke hopefully of the prospects of the working classes, owing to the large importations of grain and animal food, the reduction of the hours of labour and other favourable circumstances, and maintained that the wealth of the capitalist is often over estimated, and that a very slight increase in wages would often sweep away all bis profits.
