ABSTRACT
At the Leek Board of Guardians, on June 10, out of thirteen candidates for the registrarsbip of births and deaths, au appointment worth £70 per annum, Miss Elizabeth Rider was elected to the vacancy. It was stated that there were only two cases in the United Kingdom in which the office was filled by women, but this is an uncierstatement, as within the last two years we have observed four or five similar appointments.
