ABSTRACT

The meetings were held at eleven platforms. The ladies' platform was part of a circle of waggonettes and carriages, distinguished by neat bannerettes bearing the initials of the Ladies' National Association. Mrs . .Bright Lucas was much applauded on her appearance .as the president of this section of the demonstration. In her speech opening the proceedings she expressed .satisfaction at the crusade against vice, and her hope that in the selection of members of Parliament in November, care would be taken that good men were sent to the House of Commons, who would legislate in the interests of women as well as men. She anticipated an early gratification of her wish to see women enfranchised, and then, she declared, candidates would have to be particular as to what they said and did.
