ABSTRACT

Now the design of effective procedures for handling "one"-anaphora

requires an awareness of both the circumstances under which a speaker

"one"-anaphor. As with the J"eferents of definite pronouns, these

descriptions can come from three different sources - the discourse, the

external environment and inference.
