ABSTRACT

This contribution has two related goals: The first is to present an overview of the historical context and historiographical periodization of Galician linguistics. The second is to discuss the place this tradition occupies in Ibero-Romance studies by comparing the opinion of Galician scholars with those views presented from outside. The chapter emphasizes the change in perspective regarding Lusophone studies, examining the position that Galician linguistics should have in a wider context and the mutual benefit that Lusophone and Galician studies would achieve from such interaction.
