ABSTRACT

An objective of Japanese education is to prepare students to become exemplary citizens and model workers in any company. This education begins in the home, where the child learns the essence of Japanese culture. Most large companies in Japan offer lifetime employment to many of their employees. Barring serious long-term economic depression, these employees expect never to be laid off. Promotion and salary increases are mainly determined by the number of years in the company. However, education, productiveness, and cooperation are also considered. Ringi seidoor consensus in decision-making is the style in Japan, and is used by many of the large firms, as well as many small- and medium-sized firms. Negotiation is a process in which two or more entities come together to discuss common and conflicting interests in order to reach an agreement of mutual benefit.
