ABSTRACT

The world is experiencing a severe multiyear drought that is unprecedented in some hydro-climatic records. Drought, and particularly agricultural drought, caused a huge impact on nutrition and socioeconomic conditions of many people in the world. Features and effects of drought, such as intensity, duration, and its magnitude, vary from place to place. Most of the indicators used to assess drought are defined as regional or local ones. Due to climate change and its effects on agricultural drought, global studies are needed. Therefore, understanding different concepts of droughts will be helpful to investigate drought properties. In this section, agricultural drought indices are investigated in local and global scale. Also, the views of the international organizations and some governments have been presented on drought management.
