ABSTRACT

In order to understand and cultivate student success, you must fi rst understand the impact that school climate has on that success. Much like the parent involvement concept in chapter 6 , a great deal of research has been conducted to better understand how the climate infl uences student outcomes. It is important to take some time to understand what has been discovered through the plethora of research. The actions and interactions of school leaders and teachers within the educational environment are encompassed within the concept of school climate. Researchers have focused on this concept as a phenomenon that occurs within the school setting that facilitates positive student academic success (Goddard, Sweetland, & Hoy, 2000; Hoy & Hannum, 1997; Hoy & Miskel, 2005; Hulpia, Devos, & Van Keer, 2011; Moolenaar, Daly, & Sleegers, 2010; O’Donnell & White, 2005; Price, 2012; Sebastian & Allensworth, 2012).
