ABSTRACT

A Provisional Committee was nominated to draw up the Rules of the Soci(>ty, and it was resolved that

a~other meeting be summoned within a month's time. QUALIFICATION AS GUARDIA.i~ OF THE POOR.

AT a recent meeting of the W olverhampton Board of Guardians the Clerk stated that Miss Lloyd, the only lady member of the Board, having recently married, had become disqualified as a Guardian. Many married ladies are at this moment serving as members of School Boards, and it seems at first sight anomalous that marriage should act as a disqualification for one office and not for the other. The difference is, however, thus explained by the Clerk of the W olverhampton Board. The qualification for a Guardian is being rated to the relief of the poor in a sum not less than £20 per annum. Miss Lloyd on her marriage ceased to be so rated, and was therefore disqualified. There is no such qualification required for a member of a School Board. Any person of full age may be a member.
