ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results of the qualitative analysis of the textbook content related to work. The findings suggest that Catalan textbooks tend to promote and prioritize the neoliberal revival of Homo economicus, constructing an entrepreneurial identity among learners. In the world of work, values and practices related to the entrepreneurial self (the ideal neoliberal citizen) usually appear in a positive, desirable and normalized way. The characters tend to show satisfaction with their work or are excited at the prospect of finding a new one. In addition, the tasks in the textbooks demand students to implement an entrepreneurial spirit by having them imagine starting their own business or learning and developing techniques to find or maintain a job in a highly competitive, flexible and insecure labor market.
