ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we clarify the differences between normative ethics and descriptive ethics. We explain why people behave the way they do. We examine some of the factors that impact people’s behaviors in the context of business ethics. We refer to important contributions that help our understanding of moral development, including Kohlberg stages of moral development and Rest’s four-component model. We conclude by trying to answer the most important question of all: Why do good people sometimes commit bad behaviors?
