ABSTRACT

This chapter takes the conceptual analysis forward to consideration of a policy framework which could facilitate the delivery of the vision presented in the previous chapter. Taken in isolation, this chapter might be seen as a radical departure from what is regarded as sound macroeconomic policy. Indeed, it is a radical departure from current thinking, but in the context of the analysis and argument presented in this book, this is a logical progression of the argument. The reader should avoid the instinctive reaction to think that ‘this is not how the world works’ when reading the proposal. Yes, indeed, this is not how the world works. The world needs to work better, and that means working differently. The proposal presented here in support of the policy of ‘proximization’ should be discussed and debated, not thrown out because it does not conform to the current mainstream economic perspective.
