ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the approaches and strategies that are used in the teaching of signed languages as second (L2) or additional (Ln) languages. Teaching strategies that contribute to the effective learning of signed language by the L2/Ln language learners are exemplified. The chapter continues with a discussion of issues and challenges in signed language teaching approaches and strategies. A Post-method Pedagogy is proposed and described as an alternative approach in L2/Ln teaching that takes into account the teachers, learners, classroom structures, teaching time, resources, and the learning environment. Future research studies and pedagogical practices that need greater attention going forward are suggested.
