ABSTRACT

At the national level, the status of food security varies enormously. Some countries have experienced persistent low levels of food security. Some have managed to get out of low-level and moved into medium-level food security. Some others, however, have moved backwards, slipping from medium- to low-level food security. Yet, many others have achieved and sustained a very high level of food security. Examining the practices of countries of varying food security achievements can help reveal valuable lessons and experiences. In this chapter, food security practices in countries with low or medium levels of food security are examined. They include China, Fiji, India, North Korea, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.
