ABSTRACT

Having examined the food security practices of diverse countries in the previous two chapters, this chapter looks into why some countries have succeeded but others have failed in achieving a high level of food security. Major similarities and differences in food security practices and the associated experiences and lessons are highlighted. Key factors that can help improve or hinder a country’s food security are then borne out. Findings from examining and comparing country experiences have also helped to demythicise some commonly held claims about what might be responsible for a country’s persistent food insecurity.
