ABSTRACT

Licinius saw the hollowness of the pretended religious objection to his proposals, and added a fourth to his list of reforms, that, instead of the two custodians of the sacred books, ten should be appointed, five from each order. For four years longer the struggle continued, until many of the plebeians became disheartened. At length Licinius only consented to be elected tribune for the tentll time on condition of the people promising to pass all his four bills. This was done; on the passing of the bill about the sacred custodians the plebeians allowed consular tribunes to be appointed, and after another furious contest the patricians conceded the prinpiples of the other three, the bills were passed in aue form, and sworn to by both estates.
