ABSTRACT
The work of the Birmingham Ladies' Committee deserves ~pecial record for the splendid organization it evinced. Having obtained money by assiduous collection, and laid in wholesale stores of the most serviceable materials, a large hall in the Exchange were assigned to them; one manufacturer presented them with twelve sewing machines, another lent them the services of two professional cutters-out, and in two days many hundred garments were made.
