ABSTRACT
The Catholic and Orthodox Churches were two world religions that shared the same religious beliefs and were unified until the eleventh century and since then have occasionally worked toward reunion. They each played a major role in generating and supporting different value systems that produced vibrant and diverse civilizations – the Catholic Church serving as a catalyst of Western civilization and the Orthodox Church providing inspiration for the Byzantine and MuscoviteRussian civilizations.
