ABSTRACT

This chapter touches on limitations of the current study and the extent to which those limitations might alter the findings. Further, it presents a synthesized portrait of the linguistic behavior of Spanish speakers in New York and answers to questions posed in chapter 1 about the extent of influence of English on the lexicon of Spanish. Contribute to understanding the linguistic behavior of a particular group (Spanish speakers in New York), add to our knowledge of a particular type of linguistic process (lexical borrowing) and engage with some of the questions that dominate and define research three areas of inquiry: language contact and change, bilingual speech research and Spanish in the U.S. These contributions are synthesized here. We begin first with acknowledging a limitation of the current study. Finally, it synthesizes its contribution to three areas of inquiry: language contact and change, bilingual speech research and Spanish in the U.S.
