ABSTRACT
This chapter is dedicated to the ‘regulating conflicts’ functional category and the concept’s application to the three cases of nomad Central Asia, the Central African rainforest and Polynesia. Like the previous chapter, it will be concerned with capturing the social institutions that existed in these societies. Yet, I will also continue to expand on the argument about state-based misrepresentations introduced above.
