ABSTRACT

IN the discussion that follows, considerable use will be made of the time divisions sketched out in the last chapter. But it would not be convenient simply to hang our material on a straight chronological line. The arrangement I shall adopt is as follows. After a brief introductory Part I, Part II will be devoted to Employment, Part III to Production, Part IV to Government Intervention in Industry and Part V to the Monetary Factor. This will be followed by a Concluding Chapter entitled" The Upshot for Real Income and Real Wages". A Statistical Appendix brings together in four sections a number of important tables, supplementary to those embodied in the text and relating respectively to Employment and Unemployment, Production, Prices and Money Wages, and Currency, Bank Deposits and Clearings.
