ABSTRACT
HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS WITH INMATES From an organizational perspective the correction officer’s role in the prison community has traditionally been perceived in terms of custody. As members of a custodial staff, officers are concerned with maintaining institutional security, order and discipline, supervising inmates and enforcing rules. The Joint Commis sion on Correctional Manpower and Training found these activities to be charac teristic of institutional correctional staffs.1
