Many officers indicated that it was still appropriate to take affirmative steps to discover if inmates they knew well were having problems and to alleviate the problem by removing the inmate from the situation. However, as can be seen in Table 17, Appendix D, fewer of the officers from the original sample thought so and among younger officers, there were fewer still.
