ABSTRACT

This chapter offers ideas for fostering a positive learning environment and for finding solutions to the most challenging issues today in areas such as teacher-student relationships, learning and instruction, assessment, motivation, educational policies and politics, and student engagement. Teachers leave tokens of appreciation on their students' desks. Storytelling is the center of how educators communicate with one another and even though there are research studies about the power of intrinsic motivation, they still love to be extrinsically motivated. A superintendent uses stories at graduation or when conducting a keynote to teachers who use stories to pull up their students who are working through a difficult task to parent leaders using stories in order to illustrate good program decision making as they support their schools through PTA events or the like, stories have the power to unite and reunite. Stories exude power and create powerplays for educators in their classrooms and schools.
