ABSTRACT

This chapter establishes the types of stories that can have the greatest impact on educator's school and then help them to navigate through when and how to use them for building wonder, reflection, and change in their school. Stories can tug emotions for educators, parents, and students. Real examples from real students transform school cultures, and there is always a contextual outlet for them to share a story with someone else for assisting with educator's school culture. There are hundreds of books written about motivating students and fostering positive relationships with students. Students' stories can unpack deep feelings about what they feel is important for teachers to know about them and how they should behave inside and outside the classroom. The how is very important when using narrative theory for school transformation. Sometimes, it is hard to get the permission of those who tell powerful stories when they become textualized. Using authentic stories should be just that: authentic.
