ABSTRACT

This chapter offers the creating learning objectives using a template with Bloom's Taxonomy; examples of effective and ineffective learning objectives; and connecting learning objectives to learning outcomes. Case conceptualization exercises to deepen understanding of the process of developing and implementing learning objectives and accomplishing desired learning outcomes from students. One of the best ways to approach the complex task is to use a learning taxonomy. Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Skills is a commonly used resource for classifying and writing student learning objectives, and was later revised to better integrate different types and levels of knowledge. A quick internet search will supply counselor educators with a myriad of support information and details specific to both Bloom's versions. Learning objectives can be written at the course level and the individual assignment level. Assignment learning objectives are focused on smaller pockets of learning and are more specific than those written for the course.
