Personal factors must be evaluated in addition to academic abilities and content knowledge. Counselor educators should approach the classroom with a variety of strategies aimed toward facilitating the development of counseling students' personal and professional growth. In counseling programs, students must be assessed for content knowledge as well as the personal characteristics necessary for success as a professional counsellor. The presence of objectives creates consistent expectations for both the faculty teaching the course as well as the student taking the course, as they are both responsible for meeting the objectives.
