ABSTRACT
Western secularists agree that one of the attractive - and desirable - features of the secular nation-state is that of political pluralism. The classically formulated and generally accepted position of non-Muslims in Muslim society, however, seems to preclude, at least theoretically, political pluralism in the nation-state.
