ABSTRACT

The initial request for Wilderspin's services in Ireland ~ to advise on the construction and appointment of the proposed Model School and playground of the Board of National Education~ had been made by one of the Board's Commissioners shortly after the termination of the Liverpool engagement in the last week of August 1837. Wilderspin went over to Dublin, probably during the last two or three weeks of September, and gave "the necessary instructions to the surveyor and set the principal parties in a proper position to begin the undertaking". He left with the understanding that he would be advised of the time when his services would again be required. 1 Then followed the events described in the last chapter.
