ABSTRACT

In this chapter we deploy the theoretical lens of signature pedagogies to analyse the ways that teachers help students become creative practitioners in art and design. Surfacing the relationships between academia (the university) and professional practice (the so-called real world), we propose that there are common traits and strategies that tutors access to support students’ journey from novice to expert. These pedagogies illuminate the complex ways that tutors configure the learning environment to offer a palette of practice based learning opportunities both in the studio and outside it.
