ABSTRACT
During the year 2007 many of the legal issues in museum acquisitions of stolen antiquities and art looted during World War II continued to be in the forefront of international news. In several momentous settlements, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Princeton Museum agreed to restitute antiquities to Italy and Greece. As a result of these settlements, charges in courts in Athens and Rome against former Getty Museum curator Marion True have been dropped. It has again been an especially active year for cases and controversies involving the restitution of art looted from Jewish families during the Holocaust.
