Fenway Park opened on April 12, 1912, and has the distinction of being the oldest park used in baseball and the oldest stadium used by any professional sports team in the United States. Fenway Park holds approximately 37,000 fans and thus is the smallest park in professional baseball. It gets its name from its location in the Fenway area of Boston. Fenway park is also home to the distinctive 'Green Monster' wall, a 37 foot tall metal wall in left field wall beloved by the Red Sox left fielder Ted Williams, the only player in modern times to have batted more than. Williams hit the longest home run recorded in Fenway Park, measuring 502 feet. Fenway Park was built in 1912 and the new Yankee Stadium in 2009. Fenway Park is very small, holding only 37,000 people, while Yankee Stadium is large, holding 50,000 people.
