ABSTRACT

The Grand Canyon is, according to a report published by Forbes magazine, the twentieth most popular tourist site in the United States. People from other countries, with lots of history, come to America to see nature: our redwood trees, the Grand Canyon and our other natural wonders. Many international visitors who come to see Las Vegas, Hollywood's Walk of Fame and New Orleans also make it a point to see some natural wonders in the United States like the Grand Canyon. Many international visitors who come to see Las Vegas, Hollywood's Walk of Fame and New Orleans also make it a point to see some natural wonders in the United States like the Grand Canyon. Houston's metaphor of 'written' landscapes invites us to consider how natural parks like the Grand Canyon are also symbolically constructed from a variety of narratives telling stories of American nationalism, the majesty of nature, cultural identity, and the dramas of western expansion.
