ABSTRACT
The Golden Gate Bridge is the most famous bridge in the western part of America, probably the most famous bridge in the United States of America, and one of the most famous and beautiful bridges in the world. The problem with the Golden Gate Bridge is that a suicide attempt from it is almost always fatal. The Golden Gate Bridge attracts people from all over the world including those who wish to commit suicide, though most of the people who jump off the Golden Gate Bridge come from areas near San Francisco. It is possible to see the Golden Gate Bridge as the polar opposite of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty represents optimism and faith in the possibility of living the good life in a free society. The Statue of Liberty was, for the millions of immigrants from Europe who saw it when they came to the United States, a signifier of the future, of freedom and possibility.
