ABSTRACT

Have I told you the story of the “fish and game of it?” A few years back, the hunting law had it that one hunter was only allowed to shoot one mule deer per season in and around Alberta. Well one day, as the story goes, a man went into the northern bush and saw another fellow come walking out with a fine mule deer. He stopped him and said, “My goodness, that’s a beauty. Do they grow many around here as fine as that?” “Why sure,” replied the successful hunter, “It is a fine one all right, but you should see the one I got last week over at Dunvegan!” The man stared at him. “Do you realize who I am? No? Well, I’m the Fish and Game Officer in this area.” “Well,” came the hunter’s quick reply, “Do you realize who I am? I’m the biggest 178storyteller in Dunvegan!” (Creighton, cited in Anderson, Aubrey, & McDiarmid, 1979)
