ABSTRACT

This is also known as guided inquiry. It differs from the inquiry method because students hypothesize the results ahead of time. The setup phase includes a discussion of the problem that produces these hypotheses and the methods used to falsify them. This is the guided aspect to the method. The students can derive the methods from previous sessions. You can assess at the end of the setup and during the subsequent review phase. The advantage of the method is that it can easily generate a sense of individual student ownership of a particular method. Students find the search for the undetermined result motivating. Students can work individually or in groups.
