Be open to the possibility of a learning disability in underachieving students. Students having difficulty in several different subject areas or who put in the preparation time but are still performing poorly may suffer from a learning disability. It is not your job to diagnose and treat such disabilities. You point the student toward the office in the university where that specialized advice and support is found.
