ABSTRACT

I have provided a rubric from San Diego State University of how you might go about evaluating collaborative work. The rubric works well in most circumstances, especially if students are familiar with it ahead of time. This rubric focuses on observable behaviors. I have found the selfevaluation tells me important information about non-observable behaviors in evaluating group work. I always ask students to write me a letter in which they answer four questions:

Ș What were the most important research findings in the process of developing your report, and which group member contributed those findings? Ș What do you consider to be your most valuable contribution to the group effort? Ș What did you learn about the research process through this project that you did not realize before? Ș What will you do differently the next time you are involved in a collaborative research project?
