ABSTRACT
Beginning with the area studies curriculums that bloomed during the Cold War, universities have slowly developed curriculum around interdisciplinary cooperation. These programs can offer a major, but are also likely to serve as minors or substitutes for general education requirements. The vitality and prestige of the interdisciplinary programs at a school are a good indication of the faculty’s commitment to work across disciplines to serve the learning of the students.
