ABSTRACT

For students who are stubbornly fixated on a particular grade, do not offer to have another faculty member read the paper or test. This just puts your colleague in an awkward position. Remind the student that the school has a grade challenge procedure that you would encourage them to use if they disagree with your decision. You should know what the first step in the procedure is and tell the student that you will be happy to supply whatever documentation the review requires. You can trust the grade challenge procedure. In my experience, fewer than ten percent of all grade challenges are reviewed in the student’s favor.
